Dryers account for 6 percent of residential electricity consumption and by changing a few habits in the laundry room, you can save some energy. 

• Whenever possible, use a clothes line or a drying rack to air dry clothes. 
• Dry towels and heavier cottons separately from light-weight items. Keep in mind that overstuffing dryer will create longer drying cycles and waste energy.
• If you’re ready for greater efficiency, pick an ENERGY STAR clothes dryer, which uses 20% less energy than conventional models.
